Harriet Tubman Doll

The MSHIMPI Collection of dolls is meant to tell the story of a legend. The story begins from the Bwana-Mkubwa area of Ndola district in Zambia. It is the story of a chief's daughter who was kidnapped at the age of twelve by slave traders, but manages to escape to freedom. Alone and far away, MSHIMPI sets on a quest to find her way back home to her parents. Inspired by the true story that describes this adventurous quest (which includes a romantic pact) as told to her through Grandmother - Granddaughter fireside stories, Maggie Harries-Jones has created THE MSHIMPI DOLL COLLECTION.
Therefore, these dolls are not just a set of playthings. They are a tool to convey the profound message of hope and dedication.
Hand made by Maggie Harries-Jones

Riding Freedom's Train

One-Hour Audio Documentary

THE NATIONAL UNDERGROUND RAILROAD MOVEMENT

Whenever there are instances of institutionalized oppression and cruelty toward humans, history provides us with examples of those who will risk everything to free themselves. And often, people nearby will aid in the escape from bondage. Thus, from the beginning of the enslavement of Africans on the American continent, there existed a clandestine means by which slaves fled captivity.
